Lake Oaks neighborhood of New Orleans is located by Lake Pontchartrain, and stretches from Lake Oaks Parkway to the north, Music Street to the east, New York Street to the south, and Elysian Fields Avenue to the west. Our neighborhood was built on land reclaimed from an expanding Lake Pontchartrain, in a project by the New Orleans Levee Board that lasted from the 1920's to the 1930's, and is situated by the University of New Orleans and Ben Franklin High School. Historically, Lake Oaks sat by the Shushan Airport, now renamed the Lakefront Airport, one of Amelia Earhart's final stops, as well as several prominent WWII bases, and the Higgins shipyard, famous for supplying Higgins boats during WWII.
